About me
Hi! My name is Lily Kamrath. I offer private flute and piano lessons to beginning-intermediate students in the West Metro region.
I am a senior at Minnetonka High School and have been a music student for nearly 14 years. I have played piano since preschool and flute since 5th grade. I am currently the first-chair flutist in the Minnetonka High School Wind Ensemble, and have earned various awards and distinctions on both instruments.
I am fully vaccinated & boosted against COVID-19, and I am also willing to wear a mask during lessons depending on your comfort level. I will travel to your home or to a secondary location such as the school for lessons (commute fees will apply depending on distance), or, if applicable, I can also offer virtual lessons via Google Meet.
Fun Facts About Me:
- I was adopted from China at 14 months old.
- I am somewhat proficient in Mandarin and French.
- I am a ballet and Chinese classical dancer.
- I love to cook and bake in my freetime.
- My favorite beverage is Vietnamese iced coffee.
- I am interested in pursuing a law career after high school.
- I also offer babysitting and tutoring services!
Private Lessons & My Teaching Philosophy:
I offer flute and/or piano lessons to beginning-intermediate students aged 4 through high school. As a teacher, I am patient, encouraging, and I understand the many mental blocks that can come from being a music learner. I will work with your student every step of the way and help them develop practice plans tailored to their individual schedules and needs.
My hope is that since I am a fellow student, I will be more approachable to the beginner or more reserved music pupil, (especially since I was one myself!). I aim to provide high-quality music education while reducing the mystique and intimidation of learning a new skill. I will provide constructive feedback, demonstrate skills when needed, and help students apply their learnings to their repertoire. Some performance opportunities will be available depending on student interest.
Music Experience:
Flute:
- First chair flutist in the MHS Wind Ensemble
- 7+ years of experience under teacher Kristine (Tina) Persson and in the Minnetonka Public Schools band program
- Earned a perfect score (40 out of 40) and a Superior Rating in the 2022 Solo and Ensemble Contest at Edina High School
- Participant in the University of Minnesota Honor Band 2020
- Member of Tina Persson's student flute ensemble
- Played in various community outreach performances, such as church services, senior homes, fundraising events, and more
Piano:
- 13+ years of experience under teachers Mary Carloni, Reid Smith, Katherine Faricy, and Grace Bunday
- 4-time MMTA Honors Concert Finalist
- Graduated from the MMTA competition (passed Senior B category)
- Participated in the Junior Young Artists competition
- 10+ years of music theory
- Played in several senior homes, malls, and church events
